Governor Andrew Cuomo Visits Nyack

Governor Andrew Cuomo spoke at the Nyack Center in Nyack this morning in a “Keep the Cap” campaign, touting the results of the state’s 2% property tax cap which began in 2011. Before the property tax cap legislation, homeowners were paying among the highest property taxes in the nation in 2010, with almost $9,000 for the median in Rockland County, double the New York state average and four times the national average. According to the report released, the average homeowner has saved over $800 since the start of the law which could grow to over $2,000 by 2017, if Cuomo’s plan to extend the tax cap is passed. It remains to be seen how the legislature will vote on a tax cap extension with the Republican led Senate approving the legislation
