Montebello Man Argues Village’s Violations for Beehives

A Montebello man is taking on the village over a disagreement regarding two beehives on his property. In January 39-year old Zev Oster bought a little over an acre of land on Spook Rock Road, a residential zoned area, and planted 39 blueberry plants, soon after installing the beehives to pollinate them. The village is arguing that Oster failed to file for the necessary permits to make the additions to his property and recently cited him with violations of land disturbance for adding parking lot as well as the hives. Oster started a petition on Change.org, which has over 600 signatures in support of allowing him to leave the bees. He stated that he hopes to have many more blueberry plants for local residents to enjoy and pick themselves. He will appear in court on June 24, and the stop work order issued by the village will remain in effect until then.
