Thirteen-Year Old Clarkstown Girl Killed in Car Crash

Funeral services will be held today for thirteen-year old Clarkstown resident Larisa Karassik, who was killed in a car crash while upstate with her family on Saturday. According to police the Felix Fest Middle School student was in the car with her father and best friend when another vehicle drove through a stop sign and hit the passenger side of their car. The 42-year old driver of the other car, Heath Drouin, was killed in the accident and Larisa and her father Bruce Karassik were taken to Basset Hospital in Cooperstown where he was treated for several injuries including a broken ankle, and was then transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern for further surgeries. 12-year old Anastasia Khilko, who was also in the car, was taken to Albany Medical Center for a broken leg. Counselors will be available to students and teachers starting school today after the long weekend and a GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for the family. Services for the young girl, who was a Girl Scout, athlete, and a frequent volunteer in the community, will take place this week starting with a wake from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at St. Sergius Church in Valley Cottage, with services at 7:00 PM both Tuesday and Wednesday, and a funeral at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Novo-Diveevo Church Cemetery in Nanuet.
