Boating Season Begins This Memorial Day Weekend

The New NY Bridge hosted a press conference at the Washington Irving Boat Club in Tarrytown this afternoon to caution all those planning on venturing onto the Hudson River this Memorial Day weekend starting the recreational boating season. The construction on the bridge has increased the number of vessels occupying the waters so boaters are encouraged to obtain safety-related information via the 2015 New NY Bridge Boater Safety Guide available on their website, as well as check the interactive GPS map, tracking the layout of all barges, equipment, and vessels in the river. Also in attendance were representatives from the New York State Police, Rockland County Sheriff’s Department Marine Unit, Westchester County Police Marine Unit, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Hudson River Boat and Yacht Club Association in an effort to advise boaters to stay on the main navigation channel and at least 1000 feet from any construction equipment, avoid the marked mooring field, and to adhere to Coast Guard Regulated Area. Officials are also encouraging life jacket use, avoiding alcohol consumption, and checking their own vessels for proper function and safety equipment.
