Sound Mitigation by Tappan Zee Constructors

As the weather warms and construction continues on the Hudson River, residents’ concerns that a repeat of last summer’s excessive noise coming from the new Tappan Zee Bridge site are being raised. Tappan Zee Constructors, the company responsible for putting up the new bridge, stated on Monday that as they begin pile driving and installing metal sheets to the structure once more they will be using a newly implemented noise mitigation system. First there will be a noise barrier placed over the sheets of metal that have already been installed to reduce vibration, as well as over the vibratory hammer, and a 40 by 30 foot temporary barrier will be put up to protect residents from both the loud processes. To ensure that residents get a break, pile driving will take place from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on weekdays only, for 30 minutes an hour.
