Valve Failure Caused Geyser Scene In Suffern

A water main break at the intersection of Route 202 and Chestnut street in Suffern Thursday afternoon, caused a shutdown of the roads from 3 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. after reports of a geyser of water was spotted coming from a manhole reaching up to 50 feet into the air. Local police officers doing checks on nearby commercials vehicles, responded to the scene immediately upon hearing the explosion of water. Officials stated that a failed air valve caused the water to erupt from the sewer for several hours, reaching the utility lines above. United Water crews arrived to repair the manhole cover and create a temporary solution for the valve as soon as the water was turned off. Residents never lost power or water due to the incident and no injuries were reported.
