Four Teens Arrested for Harassment in New Square

According to Ramapo Police four teenagers were arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly harassing residents in New Square. Police stated that they arrived around 2:30 AM on Sunday to find that one female and three male teens had driven a black Toyota Corolla into the neighborhood and began throwing half a dozen eggs and shouting hateful comments at members of the Hasidic Jewish community that live there. 19-year old Daniel Brophy of Pearl River and 19-year old Catherine Donnelly of Nanuet along with two unidentified 18-year olds from Nanuet and Pearl River were arrested for misdemeanor counts of second-degree aggravated harassment, police stating that while hate was definitely involved in the incident it did not qualify as a felony hate crime. According to police and village leaders, when the teenagers stopped their car on Washington Avenue, hundreds of residents came out and made a wall to block them from leaving until police arrived.
