Bear Sightings in Ramapo

Residents in Ramapo are being warned to remain aware, after another bear sighting was reported in Wesley Hills this morning. Around 7:30 AM two bears were photographed eating from garbage bins in a driveway on Skylark Drive, close to the house. There have been many bear sightings so far this Spring; recently three cubs were seen playing in a Monsey park, which was shut down by police until the bears moved on, and several reports of cubs in backyards in the area. The Department of Environmental Conservation recommend that to lessen a bear’s attraction to your home, keep your garbage inside a garage or shed, remove bird feeders from the yard, do not feed pets outdoors, do not keep refrigerators or freezers outside, or on porches, and never approach or feed a bear.
