East Ramapo BOE Presents Balanced Budget

A press release this morning outlined the meeting last Tuesday of the East Ramapo Board of Education at which a 2015-2016 school budget was approved that restores spending cuts and even adds to the reserve surplus. The restored $1.2 million cuts include kindergarten classes, athletic programs, coaching positions at elementary schools, art and music programs and building maintenance and repairs. Also, new academic support programs were created to address Common Core standards, increased funding for bilingual classes and transportation as well as professional development for faculty. The Board was able to enact cost cutting measures and secure state aid to achieve the budget increasing it b $7.3 million to $218.2 million, all while remaining under the state’s 2 percent tax cap. Voters will have their say on May 19th for the annual meeting and budget vote.
