Hundreds Travel to Albany to Support East Ramapo Oversight

Residents in support of legislation for oversight of the East Ramapo School District are traveling to Albany today to march on the State Capital where they will hold a rally on the steps. The bill was written by Assemblyman Kenneth Zebrowski, Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee, and Senator David Carlucci and would allow the state to assign a fiscal monitor to the district, who would be able to override decisions made by the board. Much of the legislation is based on a report completed by the temporary fiscal monitor Hank Greenburg, in which he expressed his opinion that the board is making bad decisions when it comes to financial planning. Organizers of the “East Ramapo Strong” march stated that Zebrowski, Jaffee, and Carlucci are expected to join the rally, as well as the newly placed head of the Board of Regents, Judith Johnson, and nearly 350 Rockland residents, students, and parents all in support of the bill’s passage.
