Noramie Jasmin Closing Arguments Heard, Ruling Expected Monday

After closing arguments were heard Friday in the corruption trial of former Spring Valley Mayor Noramie Jasmin, U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon said she would announce her verdict Monday morning. Jasmin is charged with extortion and wire fraud in her dealings with FBI operative Moses “Mark” Stern to build a catering hall and community center on village property where she would pocket a portion of the profits. Prosecutors alleged that Jasmin made trips to New Jersey as part of her illegal dealings with Stern however Defense attorney Benjamin Ostrer refuted the prosecution’s argument that Jasmin is guilty of the federal charges brought against her. He maintains that the charges have no bearing and that Stern coaxed guilt to lessen his own criminal charges in working with the FBI.
