New City Animal Control Officer Treated For Rabid Bite

A news release by the County of Rockland Department of Health on Wednesday detailed the biting incident by a rabid raccoon that occurred in New City earlier this week. Pat Coleman, the animal control officer working for the police, was bit on the leg on Tuesday after arriving on Maple Avenue in New City to apprehend the animal. Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack’s office reported Coleman, who did not miss work, had been treated with a series of vaccinations and is doing well. Guidelines for residents regarding wild animals are also outlined on the release including reporting all animal bites or contact to the Health Department and making sure your pets are up-to-date on vaccinations. Keep family pets indoors at night and if a wild animal comes on your property, to let it wander away on its own.
