Judge Approves Former Spring Valley Mayor’s Trial Requests

In the ongoing case against former Spring Valley mayor Noramie Jasmin who was arrested in 2013 for allegedly accepting bribes in exchange for political favors, a judge approved a nonjury trial. Jasmin and her attorney Benjamin Ostrer requested in early March that she appear before the judge only, without a jury, stating that the information relayed in the case would be best understood by a judge. According to Ostrer, on Friday that request was approved and the defense will continue arguing that the FBI’s cooperating witness, Moses Stern, attempted to make their client seem guilty to appear valuable to officials. Jasmin was charged along with former Deputy Mayor Joseph Desmaret with mail fraud and could face up to twenty-years if convicted of those charges.
