Busy Construction Season For New Tappan Zee Bridge

designAccording to a statement released last Thursday on the New NY Bridge website, construction on the new Tappan Zee Bridge will resume in full force this Spring after a difficult winter. More than 400 workers will be at work by mid-April which will increase in the peak construction summer months. The ‘I Lift NY’ super crane will be put to work installing a 600-ton approach span pile cap, one of many more to follow to complete the concrete base to support the bridge’s towers. Off-site work has already begun in upstate New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia to piece together portions of the bridge to be delivered by barge. Nearly $2 billion has already been spent of the projected $3.9 billion bridge. It remains to be seen how much tolls will rise upon completion of the first span in December 2016.
