County Executive Ed Day Promotes Support of East Ramapo Bill

Rockland County Executive Ed Day and a group of residents traveled to Albany to meet with several New York senators about the proposed East Ramapo oversight bill. The bill would allow a state appointed fiscal monitor to override decisions made by the district’s school board an would require a five-year improvement plan be put into action as well. Day stated that the issue is not just an East Ramapo one, but one that affects the entire county, and the future of the students. According to Day the meeting was to gain support of the Senate and to discuss opposition to the bill, which has been primarily from Legislator Aaron Weider who stated that allowing the monitor to override decisions would take away the Democratic rights of officials elected by the public.
