Fire Destroys Suffern Apartment Building

Firefighters were called to an apartment building on Route 202 around 6:45 Tuesday night, where they found flames burning through the two-story building. According to officials the fire began in the basement of the Berkeley Square building that held 16 apartments and destroyed the first floor before spreading to the second floor and roof. The road was closed off for several hours into the night, and once more early this morning when the fire was reported to have started again, though it was out by 6:00 AM. No one was injured and the building was deemed uninhabitable. Investigators with the Rockland Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Suffern Police continue searching for the cause of the fire.
