Court of Appeals Orders $12.7 Million From Rockland Sewer District

To continue the construction of a wastewater treatment plant to serve the Town of Ramapo, the Rockland Sewer District must pay $12.7 million in court ordered payment and interest to Split Rock Partnership after their 2014 appeal was denied. In February of 2005, the district took over the Split Rock property under the laws of eminent domain, deeming it a low worth property. The property owner however brought the matter to court in 2012 where Supreme Court Justice John La Cava ordered $8.1 million to be paid by the district as well as the over $4 million which has been accruing in legal and interest fees. Ramapo Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence, vice chairman of the sewer district board believed there to be enough in the budget knowing this was an ongoing case to be addressed financially.
