Rockland’s Judith Johnson Picked for Board of Regents Seat

Judith Johnson, New Hempstead resident and former superintendent of Peekskill and Mount Vernon school districts will replace Harry Phillips on the state Board of Regents. After more than a dozen interviews in January, Johnson’s nomination by the 9th Judicial District including Rockland, Putnam, and Westchester counties, was confirmed. The formal vote by the state legislature is on March 10th. Assemblyman Kenneth Zebrowski, D-New City, responded to her nomination by saying, “Judith has a great background for parents, teachers and students. She’s spent time in the classroom, she’s spent time as an administrator, she’s even spent time in Washington. I think she’s going to be a tremendous advocate for some changes in the way that the Board of Regents operates.” Zebrowski also believes her experience will be useful for the long time struggles of the East Ramapo School District.
