Man Identified in 9W Snowplow Crash

635603653988687550-image1Clarkstown Police identified the man injured in the head-on crash with a snowplow from Monday evening as Felipe Portillo. Portillo, 35 of Orangeburg, had to endure an emergency amputation on site by a Nyack Hospital surgeon prompting EMS and paramedics to secure a tourniquet to control the bleeding. Portillo is in serious but stable condition in the intensive care unit at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla after initially being transported and stabilized at Nyack Hospital. The accident occurred at the intersection of Routes 9W and 304 in Congers which were shutdown for a period following the accident to investigate and recreate the crash scenario. Clarkstown Police Officer Peter Walker had stated that the cause of the crash is still being investigated.
