State University of New York officials are requesting that the legislature approve a 300 dollar a year tuition hike, to allow for a 3 billion dollar increase over five years. According to officials they are looking to repair buildings on 64 campuses throughout the state. Governor Andrew Cuomo’s proposed budget calls for 200 million dollars a year for repairs, though officials are asking for triple that, stating that the investment in SUNY is well worth it, for the 460 thousand students attending. State officials have expressed both agreement and opposition to officials requests, some stating that the rise in tuition will be too great of a burden with the current level of student debt.
