More Funding for SUNY Means Higher Tuition

suny_map_allState University of New York officials are requesting that the legislature approve a $300 a year tuition hike to allow for a $3 billion increase over five years. According to officials, they are looking to repair buildings on 64 campuses throughout the state. Governor Cuomo’s proposed budget calls for $200 million a year for repairs, though officials are asking for triple that amount mentioning the investment into the 460,000 students in the SUNY system. State officials have expressed both agreement and opposition to officials requests, some stating that the rise in tuition will be too great of a burden with the current level of student debt.
