East Ramapo Officials Seek New Bond Vote

At a press conference held on Thursday, after a bond for $40 million to repair aging school buildings and equipment failed to pass, some residents and officials in the East Ramapo School District are asking the board to hold another vote. Legislator Aaron Weider expressed his disappointment at the conference, stating that he and officials were hoping that the district could work together to clean up the schools for the children. Most opposed to the bond stated that their reason for voting no was the need for further oversight on fiscal decisions, and the board cannot be trusted until then. Many of the schools need new boiler and heating systems, as well as new roofs, windows, and pavement. Trustees on the board stated that they would support the option to hold a new vote to hopefully draw more public school parents out, and discussion on that will continue.
