Money Issues Discussed in Suffern

Suffern Mayor Patricia Abato stated in a release that the village will not have the money to pay police and DPW employees for overtime in this pay week. The mayor called an emergency meeting on Tuesday morning, where the option to borrow at least 1.5 million dollars was discussed with the village treasurer and trustees. Trustees, who claimed there was a lack of information, including a time frame on paying back the money, denied the proposal and will further discuss it at the regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday night. The proposal includes issuing three bank notes, two for 600 thousand and a third for 340 thousand, in order to keep the village from immediate shortage until the end of may. Regular paychecks will be sent out, but without the borrowed money employees will not receive overtime.
