East Ramapo School District Bond Shot Down

According to the District Clerk of the East Ramapo school district, voters shot down the bond vote on tuesday. The numbers were released at a board meeting late Tuesday night, with 626 votes against it and 472 for it. Voting took place from 7 am to 10 pm Tuesday and, had the bond been approved, it would have allowed the school district access to nearly 40 million dollars for repairs to aging equipment and structures, including windows and roofs, pavement and bleachers, as well as boiler and heating systems. Many of the residents opposed to the bond stated that there is a strong need for more oversight of the board’s financial decisions. In his report released after an evaluation of the District Fiscal Monitor Hank Greenberg recommended that the state works with the board to ensure that money is being spent in the right places. Officials and residents who were for the bond have stated that they are disappointed for the students who need the building’s fixed.
