East Ramapo Bond Vote

Polls are open for the East Ramapo School District bond vote for capital projects today, despite the icy road conditions this morning’s commute. Residents of the district will vote on whether or not to approve nearly $40 million for repairs to aging structures and equipment. District officials stated that state aid will repay 56.2 percent of repairs, and taxpayers will not likely have to take on any of the costs, as the debt will replace a current one that is being paid off. Many residents and parent activists have expressed concern about the apparent lack of oversight on the board’s decision since the release of fiscal monitor Hank Greenberg’s evaluation of the district, which urged that the state further step in when it comes to spending decisions. Voting is taking place from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM at your regular school budget polling site. For information on polling sites you can visit the District Clerk’s website or call the office at 845-577-6015.
