Nyack’s New Year’s Celebration Cancelled

Nyack has been forced to cancel the fireworks celebration for NEw Year’s Eve due to budgeting problems. In the past, the New York State Tourism Board and various grants have paid for the annual show, which went off over Memorial Park on the river, but this year funding would have had to be provided by the county. According to officials the county didn’t have room in the budget to cover the fireworks, though next year there is the possibility that costs will be raised by residents and private funding. Also for those traveling on New Year’s Eve, remember to be safe and get a designated driver if you plan on having some drinks. The Thruway Authority and all 27 rest areas on the highway will be providing free tea and coffee from 11:00 PM Wednesday night to 7:00 AM Thursday morning to help tired drivers get home safely.
