Spring Valley Apartment Building Proposal Resurfaces

A Wednesday plans to build affordable apartments in Spring Valley were once again brought up, after being shelved since May. Mayor Demeza Delhomme stated that the former owner Alan Gestetner of Cole Levy LLC, owed $75,000 to the village, after the site was auctioned off for $3 million in June. According to Delhomme, Gestetner paid back the money and discussion can begin on the plan to build 124 apartments, with a price range of $800 to $1,300, in the Senator Eugene Levy Municipal Plaza. Some residents have expressed concern about traffic flow in the area and on Route 45 if a residential site is put in. The new owner of the property, Valley Square LLC, which is head by Eric Newhouse, stated that they will be pursuing permits for the towers and a study showed that traffic would not become a problem during or after construction. There will be a village board meeting on Monday at 8:00 PM at Village Hall where the proposals will be further discussed.
