Convicted Sex Offender Causes Concern

Sloatsburg residents expressed concern this week after it was learned that a convicted sex offender would be moving to Stony Brooke Road, which many state has playgrounds and swimming pools in the area, as well as several children living there. 50-year old Edward Bott was paroled on monday, after serving 11 years on his 15-year sentence for his arrest in 2001. Bott was accused of attacking an 11-year old girl and was charged with attempted sodomy and sexual abuse. Sloatsburg mayor Carl Wright released a statement including an announcement that the village would be holding a meeting tonight at 7 pm at the Sloatsburg municipal building on Route 17 with the sheriff’s office and the Ramapo Police Department to discuss questions and concerns that residents have presented. According to the New York State registry of sex offenders Bott is registered as a level 2 sexually violent offender, and residents are worried for the safety of children in the area, though Bott is legally able to live on the street without harassment from neighbors. The Rockland County Times reported on Tuesday that Bott is now expected to move to a new area, though the meeting will still take place to address concerns.
