Man Accused of Killing Ramapo Rape Suspect Freed of Charges

A Sparrowbush man accused of killing a man, who Ramapo Police were searching for on charges of rape, had his charges dropped by an Orange County Judge on Thursday. Judge Robert Freehill ruled that charges against David Carlson be dropped after he claimed statements made to the Grand Jury could lead to a biased decision. In October 2013 Carlson shot Norris Acosta-Sanchez, who was accused of raping a teenage girl in Ramapo, claiming he was planning to turn Sanchez in to police after discovering the accusations against the Rockland man. According to Carlson’s court statements he was using the weapon to lead Sanchez to his property when the man confronted him about his plan turn him in to police. In his defense Carlson stated that Sanchez lunged at him, leading him to fire out of fear that the man was grabbing for his weapon.
