Spring Valley Could Lose Grant Money

Spring Valley Mayor Demeza Delhomme stated on Friday that the village board is responsible for the closure of the Department of Community Development after they voted against the appointment of director Rita Grayson, which could result in the loss of $2 million in grants received through the department. Trustee Emilia White stated that though the proposal to reinstate Grayson was brought up more than once, the board had requested the mayor hire a full time employee for the position. Grayson is currently eligible for the position and Trustee Asher Grossman, who was absent for the vote, stated that she could work temporarily while the board tries to find a full time employee. Delhomme stated the grant money from the department provides services for park and road improvements for the village and Grayson’s knowledge is a huge benefit.
