No Evidence Found at Scene of Thruway Crash

According to reports on Tuesday’s fatal wrong-way crash on the New York State Thruway, witnesses stated seeing the driver 32-year old NYPD officer Richard Christopher of Suffern, make a U-turn into the Northbound lanes and park in the median during his morning commute, before driving south into oncoming traffic and hitting 59-year old James DeVito of Airmont. According to the Rockland County Medical Examiner’s Office both men were killed in the crash from blunt force trauma. Police are still waiting for toxicology reports, but the accident investigation team has stated that there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs at the scene. State Police Captain Richard Mazzone stated that nothing will be known for sure until the toxicology reports come back, which could take at least two months. Funeral services for Christopher will take place Tuesday at HIggins Funeral Home in New City at 11:00 AM and for DeVito at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern also at 11:00 AM Tuesday morning.
