Rockland Endorsed for Economic Development

County Executive Ed Day announced in a press release this week that Rockland has become the leader in this year’s state Economic Development funding last choice. The Midhudson Regional Economic Development Council has endorsed five projects in Rockland County, meaning the county received 20% of the endorsements for New York State and has a much better opportunity for development. In the release Day stated, “The projects have the potential to generate over $600 million in economic activity for the Hudson Valley.” The five projects are the new Hudson Valley Craft Beer, Cider, and Spirits which will use New York grown crops, and create twenty jobs while expanding their brand. The second is a New York location for Legoland theme park, which could potentially see about two million tourists a year and later lead to a hotel and water park. The third is the expansion of Brooklyn Brewery’s production facility, which is deciding to build a new 1 million barrel brewery in either New York City or Lower Hudson Valley. The Annelotech project will be building a pilot plant to research and develop basic chemicals. And the final project endorsed by the MHREDC is the Jawanio Integrated Health, Wellness, and Work project, which will expand Jawanio’s campus to a larger facility that will eventually be able to provide support for a more expansive employment services division, social enterprises, and health center. The projects will provide about 3,500 full-time jobs and create construction jobs throughout the Hudson Valley.
