Champlain-Hudson Transmission Line Approved by Feds

On Monday it was announced that the U.S. Department of Energy approved the installation of 330 miles of transmission line for hydroelectric power that will connect new York City to Canada after a review of how it would affect the environment. The Champlain Hudson Power Express Transmission Line is proposed to run under Lake Champlain and the Hudson River, until it reaches Stony Point where it will run underground, until it goes back under the river in Haverstraw. The proposal of the line running beneath the county has shown concern from residents who are worried that property values may decrease. The connection to Canada will potentially save New York City ratepayers 2-3% and CEO of Transmission Developers Donald Jessome stated other New York areas may benefit as well. The proposal now faces final approval and permits.
