Sloatsburg Files Suit Against Town of Ramapo

According to a case filed with the Supreme Court the Town of Ramapo is being sued by the Village of Sloatsburg in an attempt to challenge the town board’s approval of a 384 unit housing complex to be built on 54 acres of unincorporated Ramapo near the Sloatsburg border and Route 17 Southbound. Woodmont Hills, which has been proposed by Woodmont Properties of Fairfield New Jersey, will consist of sixteen three story buildings on the land around Auntie El’s Farm Market, which is zoned for commercial and residential. The case filed by the village states that the complex would be, “An abuse of discretion in the excess of the board’s jurisdiction and in violation of lawful procedure.” Documents state the village’s fire department doesn’t have the proper truck and ladder to fight potential fires in the taller buildings. The developer stated that they will be installing sprinklers in every residential building and access to the ground with fire escapes. Ramapo Attorney Michael Klein stated the planning board forward and they are confident the approval will be upheld.
