Nayck Board to Make Decision on Teacher Arrested for DWI

A history teacher with Nyack School District was arrested on Friday night and charged with misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated, with a blood alcohol content of .18, after he was reported by Clarkstown Police to have backed his car into a parked car in the lot of a nanuet strip club. 47-year old Donaldson Hains is a popular high school history teacher and golf coach in the district and is facing the possibility of losing his teaching certificate if found guilty at his town court appearance on July 31. This week parents, fellow teachers, an students have stated a mix of emotions towards the case, some supporting the man saying he made a mistake, others saying teachers need to act like role models for students. The board of education will be meeting August 19 where they will most likely make a decision on actions to take against the teacher. Superintendent James Montesano stated the board doesn’t condone the behavior, but they will discuss the issue further.
