East Ramapo Board President Writes Against Fiscal Monitor

The President of the East Ramapo School District, Yehuda Weismandl, recently sent a letter to education commissioner John King Jr., stating that the placement of a fiscal monitor within the district is a political move and nothing more. The state appointed Attorney Hank Greenburg to the role of monitoring the financial records in an attempt to solve the crisis the district is in. In the letter Weismandl states critics of the board are using the financial status as “evidence of incompetence, malfeasance, and even fraud by the elected members.” According to the letter Weismandl expects that the monitor will provide advisement to the board and not more, and though the board disagrees with Commissioner King’s decision they will respect it. Senator David Carlucci stated that the letter is a “public attack” on the fiscal monitor and added that he finds the district’s refusal of the offered $3.5 million advance in education aid troubling.
