Chestnut Ridge Summer Camp Dispute Cleared Up

The summer camp that is leasing Chestnut Ridge Middle School for $125,000 from June 30 to August applied for a building permit after a minor dispute occurred when workers were seen installing electrical lines and four temporary above ground pools on the property. According to Village Attorney Walter Sevastian the camp decided to apply for permits on Tuesday and the village will review the safety of the pools so a permit can be granted. Sevastian stated that the process may go faster now that the camp got rid of plans to install concrete pads underneath the pools. The dispute over the property began when the camp allegedly stated that they did not believe it was necessary to file for permits because they were working on school grounds, and according to Assistant Commissioner of School Operations Charles Szuberla, modifications made that usually require permits are closely looked at by the state Education Department.
