Summer Camp Building Without Permits

A summer day camp has allegedly begun building on the Chestnut Ridge Middle School Property without permits. According to Mayor Rosario Presti Jr.,the religious summer camp is looking to build four swimming pools on the propert, and work began earlier this week digging and laying electrical lines. Presti stated that code enforcement officials issued a stop-work order after work was seen being done and when enforcement officers arrived at the property most was already completed and workers claimed to be employed by the school district. According to officials the village never received applications from the camp’s owner, Yosef Levine of Teaneck New jersey, so no approval for pools or building has been processed. The village is also waiting for two approvals from the County Health Department for the summer camp and sanitary conditions. According to Presti, camp officials camp officials stated that they did not have to file applications for permits because they would be located on school grounds. The camp is moving from its location in Orangeburg and will be paying and will be paying $125,000 from June to August. According to Village Attorney Walter Sevastian the tenant can appeal the building inspector’s decision, which could lead to a court case delaying the camp’s opening. Presti stated that the village is only attempting to provide the safest conditions, not to stop the camp.
