Haverstraw Police responded to an apartment on Forest Drive in Garnerville on Wednesday night after reports from neighbors of arguing and loud noises. According to police at 10:20 PM 29-year old Shannon Coleman was attacked and killed by her fiance, 37-year old Nixon Bourguignon, who she was reportedly trying to end things with and move out of the apartment they shared with her two sons, one ten and the other seven. Charles Miller, the Haverstraw Chief of Police, stated that when officers arrived they found Bourguignon in a closet with cuts on his arms and wrists, police believe he had attempted suicide. The younger of the two boys was Bourguignon’s son with Coleman and both children were asleep in their room during the attack. Police stated that neither child was physically harmed.
