Money Awarded to Residents Living Near Tappan Zee Construction

On Wednesday Tappan Zee Constructors announced they will be offering 1.7 million dollars to homeowners near the construction site to dampen noise during work hours. Each homeowner in South Nyack, Grandview, and Tarrytown will receive $30,000 from the 20 million dollar community benefits funds from the state Thruway Authority and the builders for sound-reducing windows and doors. Construction on the bridge began six months ago and residents are looking for questions to be cleared up, such as whether or not they will be required to pay taxes on the money. According to Tappan Zee project officials, with the windows and doors installed, residents can expect noise levels of an average quiet urban neighborhood or about 51 decibels while pile driving is taking place.
