Man Pleads Guilty In Religious Divorce Case

On Tuesday a Lakewood New Jersey man pleaded guilty in a case in U.S. District Court in which he and other men are accused of kidnapping orthodox Jewish husbands and harming them to force a religious divorce. In October ten men in Monsey were caught by FBI undercover investigators pretending to pay them to torture a fake husband and on Tursday 51-year old David Wax pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit kidnapping and told prosecutors details about ten other men involved in a case from 2010, where they were paid $100,000 to kidnap a man and use violence against him to obtain the divorce. According to prosecutors the evidence against Wax led to the arrest of Monsey Rabbi Martin Wolmark and Ariel Potash as well as Brooklyn based Rabbi Mendel Epstein and seven other men. Wax will be sentenced on August 19 and faces life in prison.
