East Ramapo Students Suspended For Pellet Gun

On Monday Pomona Middle School suspended four students when a parent reported to Principal Christine Alfonso that there had been a gun in the school. The police were called and investigated the child who was suspected of possession, and though nothing was found it was determined to be a pellet gun. According to Assistant Superintendent for personnel and secondary education, Arthur Fisher, no one was injured during the incident which occurred on Friday with a dispute that allegedly involved at least ten students, threatening phone calls, and passing the pellet gun around during school hours. Fisher stated that four students were suspended for five days with a recommended superintendent’s hearing that could lead to more disciplinary actions, and the East Ramapo School District takes the situation very seriously. A parent of one of the suspended boys, Cassandra Edwards, stated that her son received threats and was present when the gun was out, and that parents need to step in to address the issues of violence and guns before it is too late.
