Suspicious Fire In Montebello

Firefighters from Tallman, Suffern, Monsey, Hillcrest, and Mahwah responded to a call Monday night of fire at an empty house on Montebello Road in Montebello. According to George Drescher, a Rockland County Fire Coordinator, the fire started in the basement and spread to the upper floors of the wood framed house. The basement flames were quickly put out, but were determined to be suspicious. Orange and Rockland Utilities stated that the gas and electric had been shut off and officials believe there were multiple points of origin. No injuries were reported and the Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations will continue looking into the cause of the fire.
