State Allocates Money for New Bus System

According to state officials a new bus system is being set up for the completion of the new Tappan Zee Bridge. On Monday Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that $20 million has been set aside in the 2014 budget to begin preparing the new system in Westchester and Rockland Counties. According to Veronica Vanterpool, Executive Director of the Tri-State Transportation Campaign discussions will continue and more money is expected. Vanterpool was part of the task force that was assigned with improving mass transit in 2012, and called for a new system that would provide better public transit to both counties. The state is applying for a federal grant that will make it possible to build new bus stations and better traffic technology, though Vanterpool stated that the $26.7 million grant will help but Rockland and Westchester Counties will eventually need to contribute.
