Suffern Car Fire Damages Homes

Two houses were damaged in Suffern on Thursday after a car fire on East Maltbie Avenue spread to the buildings. According to Police Chief CLarke Osborn the police and fire departments responded to a call around 7:00 PM, and found a car at the address in flames. Officers assisted in clearing the scene, while fire fighters worked to control the flames which were spreading to a detached garage, then the two neighboring houses. Four people and four dogs evacuated that house, according to Osborn none were injured. Fire Chief Michael Stark stated that one of the homes was seriously damaged from smoke, fire, and water, while the other was only slightly damaged. The fire was put out by 9:45 PM and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations is investigating the cause.
