County Executive’s State of the County Speech

Rockland County Executive Ed Day will give his first state of the county address today. Meeting with the Legislature, Day’s speech will focus on the financial status of the county, the deficit was just certified by New York State Comptroller, Thomas Dinapoli, as 125.6 million dollars, and his plans to solve the fiscal crisis. Day stated that he will discuss three points, restructuring county level government, getting the economy working for everyone again, and preserving the county. Also today the Legislature will be voting to authorize the 96 million dollar bond that the state government will be lending to go towards a piece of the deficit. Legislator Joe Meyers stated that he hopes Day will talk about other topics from his campaign as well as the fiscal crisis, such as Patrick Farms in Ramapo, the chicken slaughterhouse in New Square, and the threat of overdevelopment within the county. For those who cannot make the meeting the speech will be aired live by News 12 at 7:02 tonight.
