Spring Valley Mayor Responds to Plow Controversy

Spring Valley Mayor Demeza Delhomme held a press conference Wednesday afternoon where he released an explanation for his decision Tuesday to send the drivers of the snow plows home during the storm. According to Delhomme the village was following union regulations to give the drivers a three- hour after they had been working for eight hours since six AM. He stated that after the three- hour break workers spent the entire night cleaning the streets and were finished by five Wednesday morning. The order to take plows off the street came as a shock to most of the officials and residents of the village, many questioning the decision and others Delhomme has made in his mayoral term so far. According to Village Trustee Emilia White, she learned of the decision after receiving calls from concerned residents, and contacted the Department of Public Works and was informed of the order. At Wednesday’s press conference Village Trustee Anthony Leon stated that the problem came from a lack of communication, and the plow operators were told to take a break and return later that evening.
