Suffern Company Requests Tax Exemptions

Orange Avenue Associates LLC, the developer of a proposed housing project in Suffern, has submitted an application requesting a mortgage recording tax exemption and a sales tax exemption. The request was filed with the Rockland County Industrial Development Agency, who will hold a public hearing at Suffern Village Hall at 9:30 Tuesday morning. According to the board the developer will need a zone change to go through with the proposal, and the tax exemption request will give the developer $235,000 in mortgage tax and $800,000 in sales tax, and will reduce the number of units from 111 to 91, as the original number was too much for the area. The proposal states that in order to build the luxury apartments 150 full time construction jobs would be created and the residents of the new building would spend roughly 2.5 million dollars a year in the local economy.
