Another Child Comes Forward on New Square Sex Offender

The brother of a New Square sex offender was arrested on Friday after being accused of molesting a boy from 2001 to 2206. According to the victim, who’s name was not reported, he went to Moshe Taubenfeld, a 55- year old teacher and father of twenty children, looking for support after the 2001 September 11 terrorist attacks, when the sexual abuse began. The victim stated that it ended in 2006 when he turned thirteen and he and his family reported the man to New Square’s Grand Rabbi David Twersky, though community officials told them not to go to police. In July, after nothing had been done by the community, the victim went to police leading to an arrest on charges of second- degree sexual conduct against a child. According to Ramapo Detective Lt. Mark Emma it was difficult to find Taubenfeld because he also goes by the name Mendel Zarkowsky, but he was arrested and released on $25,000 bail on Friday and is due back in court on January 27. In 2011 Taubenfeld’s older brother Herschel was reported to police by a victim who goes only by Yossi, though he avoided jail time, even after admitting to the abuse.
