Tappan Zee Bridge Work Suspended

Work on the foundation of the new Tappan Zee Bridge project has been suspended due to icy conditions on the Hudson River. According to the United States Coast Guard on Wednesday the Hudson was fifty percent covered in ice two to three inches thick. Tappan Zee Constructors spokeswoman, Carla Julian, stated that crews are unable to work in the water and are watching the temperatures and conditions for when work can restart an as of now equipment will not be removed from the water, work is continuing on land. According to commanding officer of the Coast Guard cutter Sturgeon Bay, the ice breaker is working at a major blockage point near West Point and when the ice breaks up it flows to the bridge and accumulates there. River traffic has not slowed due to the ice, though some vessels have been forced to suspend travel.
